Classic matches from Premier League opening weekends

Jurgen Klinsmann made a memorable debut for Tottenham at Hillsborough in 1994

Arsenal and Liverpool produced a seven-goal thriller in the north London sunshine on Sunday afternoon.

Here, Press Association Sport looks at six other opening-weekend crackers from the Premier League.

Everton 1 Arsenal 6, 2009

The Gunners were at their irrepressible best at Goodison Park. Arsene Wenger's team led 3-0 at the break through Denilson, Thomas Vermaelen and William Gallas, before Cesc Fabregas (two) and Eduardo also found the target after the break. Stunned Everton could only manage a stoppage-time reply from Louis Saha.

Middlesbrough 3 Liverpool 3, 1996

Italian striker Fabrizio Ravanelli scored a hat-trick on his Boro debut in a game Liverpool led three times. Robbie Fowler, John Barnes and Stig Inge Bjornebye got the goals which had the Reds ahead - but 'The White Feather' earned the Teessiders a point.

Sheffield Wednesday 3 Tottenham 4, 1994

Spurs won a seven-goal thriller thanks to Germany striker Jurgen Klinsmann, who followed his winner with a celebratory dive which was to become a familiar sight in the top flight. Teddy Sheringham, Darren Anderton and Nick Barmby were also on target for Ossie Ardiles' team, who led 2-0. The hosts' other goals came from David Hirst, Dan Petrescu and Colin Calderwood's own goal.

Derby 3 Leeds 3, 1996

Jacob Laursen's first-half own goal gave Leeds the edge in a game which sprung into life in the final 18 minutes, with five goals scored. Ian Harte doubled the visitors' lead but Dean Sturridge and Paul Simpson scored in quick succession to draw the hosts level. Lee Bowyer looked to have won it for Leeds with five minutes remaining - only for Sturridge to get his second three minutes later.

Aston Villa 4 Man City 2, 2008

All the goals came after the break. John Carew gave Villa the lead but Elano equalised - only for Gabriel Agbonlahor's seven-minute hat-trick to win it for Villa and render Vedran Corluka's late reply scant consolation for new City boss Mark Hughes.

Wigan 0 Blackpool 4, 2010

Just six years ago, Blackpool made the perfect start to life in the Premier League. Ian Holloway's side led 3-0 at half-time thanks to goals from Gary Taylor-Fletcher and Marlon Harewood (two), before Alex Baptiste rounded off a commanding victory 15 minutes from time.
