The Bharati Vidyapeeth police have arrested a suspect from Akola for his alleged involvement in the theft which happened outside a Rajiv Gandhi Zoological Park at Katraj in November last year.

PUNE: The Bharati Vidyapeeth police have arrested a suspect from Akola for his alleged involvement in the theft which happened outside the Rajiv Gandhi Zoological Park at Katraj in November last year.
The police have identified the suspect as Mudatsir Yunus Shaikh (18) of Tarfel village in Akola district. The Bharati Vidyapeeth police team led by senior inspector Vijaysinh Gaikwad has made the arrest.
H K Merchant 39-year-old resident of Camp had gone to the Rajiv Gandhi Zoological Park on November 11, 2015.
He had parked his car in the parking lot of the park. When he returned back he found that some had made away with the cell phone and other valuables worth Rs 1.4 lakh from his car. The suspect had opened the car by using a duplicate key, Gaikwad said.
He said that during the probe the police constables Pravin Kalbhor and Samir Bagsiraj found that the stolen cell phone was in use in Akola. “Our team rushed to Akola and traced Shaikh from Tarfel vlillage,” Gaikwad said.
During the search the police have found cell phones worth Rs 1.30 lakh from Shaikh’s possession, Gaikwad said. “We have arrested Shaikh and our probe is on.”
The investigating team comprised sub-inspector Uttam Budgude, police constables Pradip Gurav, Vinod Bhandalkar, Ganesh Sutar and Babasaheb Narale.
