A man who fell out of his kayak was rescued by the coastguard and inshore lifeboat volunteers on Sunday morning.

The Swanage coastguard discovered the man after reports he was shouting for assistance, 40 yards from the beach.

The man, who is thought to have been in the water for four hours, was taken to Poole Hospital with suspected hypothermia.

Poole lifeboat volunteers said the man was "extremely fortunate" to have been rescued when he did.

He was found at about 04:00 BST near the North Haven steps.
