CARSON, Calif.— Los Angeles and Colorado missed their chances to challenge for the lead in Major League Soccer’s Western Conference when they played out a 1-1 draw on Saturday.

With West leader Dallas held to a draw at home against Sporting Kansas City, the second and third-placed teams had a chance to close in but neither could manage the victory.

In the East, New York did pull off a win, beating Montreal, to close within two points of rival New York City, which drew against Columbus.

Colorado took the lead at Los Angeles when Albanian international forward Shkelzen Gashi hammered a home a long-range shot in the 51st minute, but the Galaxy equalized in the 62nd when Daniel Steres glanced home a header from a Steven Gerrard corner.

Los Angeles goalkeeper Brian Rowe was helped off the field in the 82nd minute after a collision with Colorado’s Irish striker Kevin Doyle, and was replaced by reserve keeper Dan Kennedy.
