The New York Red Bulls closed to two points behind neighbours New York City at the top of the Major League Soccer Eastern Conference with a 3-1 win over the Montreal Impact on Saturday night.

Bradley Wright-Phillips scored twice - going past Juan Pablo Angel to become the club's record regular-season goalscorer with 59 - to turn the game around after Ignacio Piatti's opener for Montreal.

Sean Davis wrapped up the scoring in the 46th minute, moments before Montreal defender Ambroise Oyongo was shown red for a tackle on Davis.

Wright-Phillips said of his goals feat: "It's definitely a proud moment, you know, the names associated with that record before, I shouldn't even be in that category.

"Somehow by the grace of God I'm in it and I'm going to see how many I can get and I just have to thank my team-mates and everyone that's helped me to get to this record. I can only be thankful."

Meanwhile, coach Denis Hamlett told the club's website: "Brad's a great guy. Couldn't have happened it a better guy."

Frank Lampard's opener was cancelled out by Justin Meram, before Ethan Finlay's penalty put the Crew ahead 10 minutes from time, only for David Villa to hit back almost immediately.

Villa then struck from the penalty spot two minutes into added time, only for Finlay to rescue a point with almost the last kick of the game.

Toronto FC, within striking distance of both New York clubs, saw their game with the Houston Dynamo postponed because of storms.

The Philadelphia Union are four points back after goals from CJ Sapong, Chris Pontius, Richie Marquez and Roland Alberg powered them to a 4-0 rout of the New England Revolution.

FC Dallas drew 2-2 with Sporting Kansas City with all four goals coming in the space of 11 minutes. Tesho Akindele's opener for Dallas in the 66th minute was quickly answered by Dominic Dwyer's double, before Maximiliano Urruti levelled it up again in the 76th minute.

That keeps Dallas four points clear of Colorado at the top of the Western Conference after the Rapids drew 1-1 with the Los Angeles Galaxy, with Shkelzen Gashi's opener cancelled out by Daniel Steres.

DC United beat the Portland Timbers 2-0 with goals from Steve Birnbaum and Luciano Acosta.
