More than 1,000 magicians likely to participate in convention

More than 1,000 magicians will vie to cast a spell on audience at the International Magic Convention – Manthra, which began at Regional Theatre here on Saturday.

The event was flagged off with a show by Jadugar Anand. Agriculture Minister V.S. Sunil Kumar was the chief guest. Mayor Ajitha Jayrajan presided.

Carnival atmosphere

Performances of famous magicians followed. A carnival of illusion, light, and colours was created on the stage. Audience, especially children, were on the edge of their seats as stunts such as water escape and money rain were performed.

Magician Gopinath Muthukad, who has put magic to use in various social campaigns, said, “Magic has evolved through years. It is no longer just pulling a coin from behind the ear or pulling a rabbit out of hat.”

Competitions, workshops and face-to-face with magicians are bring organised at various venues in connection with the convention, which ends on Sunday.

A show by 250 magicians, as part of an attempt to break the Guinness record, will be held at Sobha City Mall on Monday.

Many veteran magicians were honoured at the function.
