THANE: The TMC has installed two British-era cannon within its headquarters at Panchpakhadi.
The guns, that apparently were used during the freedom struggle, will be formally unveiled on the occasion of India's Independance day on August 15 for public viewing, inform officials.
The two cannons, each weighing nearly three tonne and nine feet long, were found during an excavation drive around the creek side in Kopri last year by the corporation.
The heavy guns were in extremely bad shape with few damages in its body as they were recovered. The guns were immediately relocated to Kalabhavan, a corporation-owned art gallery in Majiwada where workers were involved in restoring it.
"Parts of the guns had rusted and we got them repaired and painted to stop further corrosion. We have fitted them on small carts to given them the authentic look as it was used during its prime days," said a civic official.
The refurbished slice of history have now found a space within the civic headquarters' premises and have been installed on a pedestal. The same will be formally unveiled on Monday in the occasion of Independance day for public viewing.
