The Bishop of Bomadi Variate of the Catholic Church, Most Rev. Hyacinth Egbebo, yesterday, called on the Federal Government to engage in dialogue with agitators in the Niger Delta region, to foster peace and development in the nation.

Egbebo stated this during an interaction with newsmen at Bomadi, headquarters of Bomadi Local government Area of Delta State.

He said the suffering of the people of the oil-rich region is enormous and disheartening, pointing out that the people, apparently, have been alienated from the commonwealth of the nation, which is unjustifiable and paradoxical.

Also, following the crisis at the Sapele Diocese Anglican Communion’s Synod 2016, which commenced on July 27 and resulted in the brutal assault on four women and a youth by soldiers invited by Bishop Erifeta, the primate has directed that the synod be stopped.

According to a clergy within the diocese, who pleaded anonymity, the primate of the Anglican Communion, His Grace Most Rev. Nicholas D. Okoh, has ordered the immediate stoppage of the Sapele Diocese Synod, based on Bishop Erifeta’s inability to manage the crisis, which has been rocking the diocese for the past one year.
