HUBBALLI: Opposition leader in the assembly and former chief minister Jagadish Shettar has urged the government to release the remaining grant of Rs 2 crore for completing work on Industrial Exhibition Centre in Amaragol APMC premises here.
Addressing a state-level conference of the Chamber of Commerce Institutions and Traders' Organisztions held by Karnataka Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) here on Saturday, he said that Rs 7 crore was earmarked for the centre.
The amount includes Rs 25 lakh share from KCCI. "But only Rs 3.97 crore is released, and 50% of work is pending due to lack of grants. The government should release the remaining grant before November, well before the centre hosts INCOMEX-2016, a five-day exhibition from December 2," he said.
Speaking on air connectivity, the former CM said that he will demand daily Air India flights from Hubballi to Bengaluru because Air Pegasus has stopped its services. "We will also urge the airport authorities to extend flight services from Hubballi to other cities like Mumbai and New Delhi," he said, adding that he will discuss the problems of traders and industrialists in the assembly.
After inaugurating the conference, district minister Vinay Kulkarni said that engineering graduates from north Karnataka are facing hardship due to lack of job opportunities despite having skills. "Most graduates don't know how to face interviews, and also lack communication skills, especially spoken English. KCCI should organize seminars for the benefit of candidates so their communication skills are improved," he said, and called upon engineering graduates to become entrepreneurs. "Entrepreneurship will help create more jobs in our region," he stated.
Former MLA Chandrakanth Bellad spoke on the occasion. KCCI president Ramesh Patil presided over the meet.
Former MLC Mohan Limbikai, corporator Rajanna Koravi, KCCI office bearers Siddeshwar Kammar, Vasanth Ladwa, C B Patil, S G Kemtore, S B Mugabast and others were present.
