Chinese rolling stock firm visits Butibori, Mihan

Nagpur: With metro railways coming up in several Indian cities, rolling stock manufacturers are looking to set up manufacturing units in the country. China Railway Rolling Stock Corporation (CRRC), a Chinese firm is on the lookout for a suitable place to start its unit. A CRRC team visited Butibori MIDC and Mihan on Saturday to explore the possibility of setting up a unit here.

CRRC is an undertaking of the Government of China, which is into manufacturing of rolling stock (bogeys for railways, metros and monorails), has presence in China, South Africa, Turkey, Malaysia and Ethiopia.
The company needs between 100 and 125 hectares near a railway line to set up its factory. The company is not interested in exporting its products and ruled out the special economic zone (SEZ) in Mihan. Maharashtra Airport Development Company (MADC) has about 150 hectare land in a non-SEZ area but it is not contiguous. It’s biggest pocket is of 42 hectares. However, the required amount of land is available in Butibori MIDC extension. CRRC officials said that they would consider Mihan if they decide to set up the unit in a smaller area.
The team was led by Wang Jinseng, the managing director of the company. Wang, along with his Indian associate Madhav Kumar from UFA, first visited the additional Butibori MIDC area and then Mihan. Jagdish Sangitrao and Sanket Doshi from MIDC also accompanied them. Wang is handling the Indian subcontinent operations and prospects. Atul Thakare from Maharashtra Airport Development Company (MADC) gave a presentation to Wang and Madhav Kumar, and shared the marketing collaterals. MADC officials SV Chahande, Chaudhary and Ingole were also present during the visit.
