MARGAO: Former PWD minister Churchill Alemao issued the Goa BJP government a three-month ultimatum to undertake immediate road repairs of the hazardous Cavelossim-Dabolim airport road, else he would lead the residents and stage an agitation.
Criticizing the government for being biased in its approach to undertake development works in the state, the former PWD minister said that during his tenure, he had ensured that development works were undertaken in all 40 constituencies.

Nostalgically recalling his efforts during the violent Konkani-Marathi language agitation in 1987, Alemao also questioned the motive behind reviving this issue and dividing the people. Remarking that he was not against the Marathi language, Alemao opined that there was a need to give recognition to the ‘mother’ (Konkani) first and then the ‘aunt’ (Marathi). “There is now a clamour for grants to be provided to primary schools in the English medium as Konkani in the Roman script would have been easier for us. This only benefits the elite class not the poor downtrodden sections of society,” stated the former CM.
