Panjab University elections: ABVP finds support in All Kinnaur Students’ Association

The ABVP and AKSA agreed to be allies and set a common goal of winning the student council elections.

The All Kinnaur Students’ Association (AKSA) on Saturday extended their support to the Akhil Bharatiya Vidhyarthi Parishad (ABVP) for the upcoming student elections of the Panjab University.

In a meeting held between the two parties, it was decided that the problems faced by the students belonging to the Scheduled Tribes will be addressed as a priority and also be put in the party manifesto.

The ABVP and AKSA agreed to be allies and set a common goal of winning the student council elections.

Kanwar Rana, ABVP campus president, said: “We are extremely happy with the AKSA joining our party. All their issues or problems related to allotment of hostels and fees will be taken up by our party with the highest authorities.”

Taking note of the huge vote bank of Himachal students on the campus, the ABVP has scored a major breakthrough by allying with AKSA. “It’s a huge advantage for our party as the students of Himachal have a presence in the university and have always been the deciding factor in elections. With this alliance, the party has been strengthened even further,” Rana added.

Festive offer

The ABVP also plans to take along students from the North East with them as they are already in talks with various groups belonging to that region.

PUSU stages hunger strike against fee hike
The Panjab University Students’ Union (PUSU) on Saturday staged a hunger strike to protest the fee hike and the lackadaisical attitude of the state and central governments towards the release of grants.

They demanded that the Ministry of Human Resources and Development and the Punjab government release the grants soon.The hunger strike, being conducted by Happy Sidhu and Brahmjot Dhillon, was joined by recently-released from jail Satinder Singh alias Naval.

The party members demanded explanation from the governments. Naval said: “We will continue our hunger strike regarding the fee hike. I started with my hunger strike in the jail and will continue to do so in university.”

The PUSU members also made allegations against certain police officers for conducting the investigation in the Panjab University firing incident. “I
have been framed in the investigation. I was made a victim because of the political pressure put by the Shiromani Akaali Dal at the behest of its student wing, SOI,” Naval said. He has also demanded a fair and free investigation into the case.
