MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Russian citizen Sergei Sevastyanov, released by Taliban militants earlier on Saturday, is expected to return to Russia in one or two days, the Russian president's special envoy for Afghanistan, Zamir Kabulov, said on Saturday.
"According to the Pakistani Foreign Ministry, the whole crew of Mi-17 helicopter has been released and sent to Lahor town. In the next one or two days, he [Sevastyanov] will be sent back home," Kabulov said on Rossiay-24 television.
On August 4, Mi-17 helicopter crash-landed when reportedly flying from Pakistan's Peshawar to Uzbekistan’s city of Bukhara. Seven people on board, including one Russian citizen, were taken hostage by the Taliban militants. Senior Taliban leader Qari Saifullah Mehsud told Pakistani media that his group was behind the incident.
