Russian National Released by Taliban to Return Home in 1-2 Days

Russian president's special envoy for Afghanistan, Zamir Kabulov, said that in one or two days Russian citizen, released by Taliban militants, will be sent back home.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Russian citizen Sergei Sevastyanov, released by Taliban militants earlier on Saturday, is expected to return to Russia in one or two days, the Russian president's special envoy for Afghanistan, Zamir Kabulov, said on Saturday.

Islamabad Confirms Taliban's Release of Mi-17 Crew, Including Russian National
Earlier in the day, the Russian Foreign Ministry confirmed the release of the Mi-17 crew, including Sevastyanov, captured by the Taliban militants after the helicopter’s crash landing in Afghanistan.

"According to the Pakistani Foreign Ministry, the whole crew of Mi-17 helicopter has been released and sent to Lahor town. In the next one or two days, he [Sevastyanov] will be sent back home," Kabulov said on Rossiay-24 television.

On August 4, Mi-17 helicopter crash-landed when reportedly flying from Pakistan's Peshawar to Uzbekistan’s city of Bukhara. Seven people on board, including one Russian citizen, were taken hostage by the Taliban militants. Senior Taliban leader Qari Saifullah Mehsud told Pakistani media that his group was behind the incident.
