AGRA: In what appears to be a murder for revenge, an 11-year-old boy, Lalit Shakya, was allegedly hacked to death in Mainpuri on Friday by one Ram Naresh, whose son, also 11, was accidentally killed in celebratory firing by the former’s father, Harvilas Shakya, in April this year.
According to the police, Lalit, a resident of Nagla Puth village under Karhal police station had gone to his father’s farm for collecting cattle fodder on Friday evening but did not return.
A search later led to the discovery of his body, with injury marks on the neck, in a nearby mango orchard.
According to a complaint lodged by the boy’s uncle, Kamlesh Shakya, they suspected Ram Naresh, a resident of a nearby village, Khajuria, to be the murderer as he had been openly threatening that he would avenge his son’s death. A case has been registered against Ram Naresh, who’s absconding.
Senior police officials revealed that Ram Naresh’s son, Shivam, was accidentally shot dead by Harvilas during celebratory firing at a local ‘nautanki’ event. Harvilas was arrested and is currently in jail.
Officials said about a fortnight ago the village panchayat had summoned both the families and had tried to resolve the matter by convincing Ram Naresh that his son’s death was accidental and Harvilas had no intentions to harm him. However, Ram Naresh was allegedly adamant and kept saying he would avenge his son’s death by killing Harvilas’ child.
Police said Harvilas could not get out of jail on parole on Saturday for his son’s last rites, as it was a court holiday. Lalit has five siblings, including three elder sisters and two brothers.
