If the draft GO 190 submitted by the Telangana government to the High Court on Thursday is implemented on the ground, the landless will end up with more cash in their accounts than a farmer with one acre or less. The order promised Rs.7.5 lakh lump sum for landless agricultural labourers and artisans, in exclusion of farmers. However, if GO 123 is implemented alongside GO 190, a farmer of one acre will get a compensation of only Rs.5.8 lakh.
State secretary of the CPI(M) Tammineni Veerabhadram pointed out this anomaly at a press conference here on Friday, and said the Right to Fair Compensation and Transparency in Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement Act (Land Acquisition Act), 2013 provided for livelihood compensation for farmers too, unlike the GO 190. He said the party would implead into the case and raise this point in its petition. He also challenged the government over its earlier statement that GO 123 offered better compensation package than the Right to Fair Compensation and Transparency in Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement Act, 2013.
