Nine-year-old Zhora, who lives in Dasht village in the Armavir Province of Armenia, was diagnosed with acute blood leukemia, and his family needs money for his treatment.

“The treatment should begin immediately on Monday[, August 15], which depends on large amounts [of money],” Meline Harutyunyan, the child’s aunt, told Armenian News-NEWS.am. She noted that the family is in a dire social condition, the child’s father had left for work abroad, but returned a few days ago.

Zhora’s illness was detected two days ago. According to the first test results, the BCR-ABL (Philadelphia chromosome) abnormality was detected in 40 percent of the cells in his bone marrow.

“With test results two days later, it was in 50 percent of the cells,” noted the aunt. “It rose by 10 percent in two days. Every minute counts for us.”

Zhora is an excellent student at school, and he has decided to become a doctor when he grows up.
