Kotigobba 2 movie review: Satyam shivam sundaram

A guaranteed fun filled experience, and is a must for Kiccha fans.

Director: K S Ravikumar

Cast: Sudeep, Nithya Menen, Ravishankar, Prakash Raj, Nassar, Sharath Lohitahwa, Mukesh Tiwari, Chikkanna, Sadhu Kokila

Apart from the title with ‘2’ as new addition attached to it and the producer, this one has nothing to do with Sahasasimha late Dr Vishnuvardhan starrer Kotigobba which released in 2001. Here, ‘2’ stands for a dual purpose as Kiccha Sudeep is back with another pure commercial entertainment, which is bound to quench the thirst for a super thrilled experience especially amongst his die hard fans.

Packed with right amount of action, drama and humour, the director has sensibly balanced the stardom of Sudeep while delivering a sensible movie. However, there is nothing extraordinary about the story or the script but it manages to stands out for being simple with good narration boosted with performances by Sudeep, Ravishankar and Nithya Menen.

As it comes with the tag of commercial entertainer, the visuals are technically sound and pretty good songs further add as another highlight. However, the director could have lightened it up by trimming it a bit, as little less than three hours is too much to handle and one start looking at the ‘exit’ doors!

With centuries old Robin Hood based concept, it is revolves around two characters – Satya and Shiva. One is obviously the good guy who is honest and the other person is naturally the bad one, and the usual twist being the confusion over the ‘2’ remains the crux Ravikumar’s Kotigobba 2. The onscreen chemistry of Sudeep and Nithya Menen keeps the audience hooked on but the highlight still remains the face-off between Sudeep and Ravishankar, who is again too good with his trademark humour laced acting brilliance.

The hunt is on from the scene one when Shiva executes a heist through his associates, and soon strikes another biggie. The ‘losers’ and the corrupt cop does everything to catch hold of Shiva but the confusion over the '2' makes it difficult for them. The action comedy turns a joy ride as the ‘2’ becomes ‘1’ whereas ‘1’ is the actual ‘2’. A guaranteed fun filled experience, and is a must for Kiccha fans.
