Attempts were being made to have the synchronisation of turbo-generator of Unit 2 of the Kudankulam Nuclear Power Project (KKNPP) by the end of August, said R.S. Sundar, Site Director of KKNPP, here on Thursday.

Interacting with journalists during a workshop organised by Press Information Bureau, Mr. Sundar said that after the synchronisation, generation of infirm power of about 230 MWe to 300 MWe will be generated. “It will gradually be increased to the unit’s full capacity of 1000 MWe,” he said.

AERB approval

“It will be done after obtaining the mandatory approvals from the Atomic Energy Regulatory Board (AERB) required at various stages,” he added.

He said that while 562 MWe of the 1000 MWe power generated would be given to Tamil Nadu, as is the case with Unit 1, 50 MWe power generated from Unit 2 will be given to Telangana.

Stating that soil excavation work was currently in progress for Unit 3 and 4 of KKNPP, Mr. Sundar said that first pouring of concrete would likely to take place by the beginning of next financial year.

“For Units 5 and 6, techno-commercial negotiations are just going on between India and Russia,” he added.
