Criminal held for robbing man of cash, cellphone

Pune: Prompt nakabandi operations helped the Pune rural police arrest a criminal on police records hours after he allegedly robbed a 27-year-old man of his cellphone and cash, late on Wednesday night in Wagholi.
Police have also detained a minor accomplice in the case. "The arrested, identified as Saurabh Vilas Shinde (19) of Phulgaon in Haveli taluka, has also admitted his involvement in recent robbery in Shikrapur.
His minor accomplice is a standard X student from Wagholi. Another accomplice is on the run and a search to trace him has been initiated," police said.
Madhukar Gaikwad, sub-inspector of the Lonikand police station, told TOI that the incident occurred when Dilawar Sayyad (27) of Manjari was riding towards his residence on his motorcycle on Wednesday night. "Around 11.30pm, he stopped along the road in Wagholi for answering nature's call," he said.
During this time, three men riding on a motorcycle stopped near him and started beating him up. "They robbed Sayyad of his cellphone and cash, after threatening to kill him. Later, they fled towards Lonikand," Gaikwad said.
The officer said Sayyad, who had noticed the registration number of the motorcycle used in the crime, immediately alerted police following which a patrolling of team of the Lonikand police station reached the spot. "Sayyad informed them about the incident also gave the registration number of the motorcycle used by the trio," Gaikwad said.He said police immediately carried out nakabandi operations at various junctions on the Pune-Ahmednagar highway near Lonikand. "In the early hours of Thursday, the police team spotted the trio riding on a motorcycle and nabbed two of them after a hot chase," the officer added.
Shinde has seven cases of vehicle theft registered against him with different police stations. He has been remanded to police custody till August 16.
