Punjab: 3 men with ‘Khalistani links’ sent to 14-day remand

Amritsar police arrested Gurpal Singh, Major Singh and Rachhpal Singh on charges that the trio had links with Khalistan Zindabad Force (KJF), a hardliner group.

Police have claimed that the three were in touch with one Jagdish Singh in Belgium, who was further in touch with Pakistan-based wanted Khalistani militant Ranjit Singh Neeta and other members of KJF.

Talking to The Indian Express, M F Farooqui, IG, Counter Intelligence Amritsar, said, “Weapons are country made. Pistols are of good quality, and the maker has marked them to look like US-made.”

“There is nothing to link the weapons with Pakistan. Further investigation is needed to find the origin of the weapons,” added Farooqui.

The amount of money allegedly transferred into their account is also not huge. Farooqui said: “The accounts show transactions of Rs 2,500 to 30,000 via Western Union. We are investigating for more details about the funds and their utilisation.”

Police have claimed that the arrested men were planning “anti-national activities on a large scale”. The three have no criminal record.
