Stormy weather may dump rain on northern Maricopa County

Winds in excess of 40 mph, heavy rain and potential flooding may be on the way to Peoria, Surprise and other northwest metro Phoenix communities.

The National Weather Service issued a special weather advisory at 3:18 p.m. alerting residents of Greater Phoenix to an increased chance for storm-related risks.

A second line of storms formed from lingering moisture in northern Maricopa County is expected to drop between an inch to 2 inches of rain in communities near Lake Pleasant, according to the National Weather Service.

Bianca Hernandez, a meteorologist at the National Weather Service, said the storms would move northeast and presented the potential the produce high winds and flooding. She said residents in the affected areas could expect the storms to stick around until the early evening.
