West Indies vs India, 3rd Test, Day 4: Live Cricket Scores
West Indies vs India, 3rd Test, Day 4: Live Cricket Scores
That brings us to an end of an eventful Test match. Never the favourites from the start, the boys from the Caribbean still put up a decent fight. But the experience of the Indians had the final say. With the series in the bag for the visitors, the hosts will take them on in one last Test, this one for pride. Join us on the 18th of August at 1930 IST for the final Test between West Indies and India at Port of Spain. Until then... Cheers and take care!
Ravichandran Ashwin, Man of The Match jokes that he is not sure about his man of the match trophy but of the series, yes he is. He says that they wanted to bat long and put up a respectable score to come back with the ball. On the wicket, he opines that they really focused on bowling in the right areas and certainly followed up on it. On the team, he feels that everybody has their say and everyone admires that.
Virat Kohli, Indian captain says it is good that they won it away. He opines that the day 3 was washed out so they had to come out aggressively to win. He confirms that the body language plays an important role and they displayed it in their will to win a series. (On his 3 changes) He admits that Rohit Sharma should be given more chances to bat as they were playing the combination of Ajinkya batting at 4, Rohit at 5 while he, himself, would like to continue playing at 3. (On Ashwin and Saha) He says that both of them did a good job and really appreciates Ashwin and Saha for their positive attitude. (On Bhuvneshwar Kumar) He opines that he bowled his heart out and performed well for India in this match. Ends by saying that they lost early wickets and will really look to work on that point.
Jason Holder, West Indies captain says that they bowled well by picking five wickets earlier. Credits Ashwin and Saha for playing so well. (On their batting) He says that the top order didn't do well and will like to play well in future. Adds that their bowlers didn't do too well to take wickets. Once again says that his batters need to perform better. (On the positives of Cummins and Joseph) He confirms that they were promising for the side. For the final match he says that they will definitely look to do better.
The hosts had a tough task ahead but they took it on with heart. Mohammed Shami made inroads into the West Indies side, while the other pacers lent a helping hand. Sealing the home side's fate were the spinners, Ashwin and Jadeja, who helped wrap up the innings.
The hosts batted well but they were not able to stand up to the might of Bhuvneshwar Kumar and were bowled out for 225. The third day was lost to rain, but the sunny weather soon prevailed and play resumed on day four. India looked to increase the lead quickly, throwing their bats around and set a tough target of 346. Miguel Cummins got a powerful 6-wicket haul thanks mainly to India's reckless pursuit of quick runs.
West Indies put up a good fight in the initial couple of days but one rained out day later, India came back a different side, dominating on all fronts. In their first innings, debutant Alzarri Joseph landed India in a heap of trouble early on. Thankfully, they were able to save face with wonderful 213-run partnership between Ashwin and Saha.
What a victory for the visitors! The Indians have made a huge statement with this match, clinching the series with a 2-0 lead. Their bowlers tore through the hosts' batsmen to bowl them out for 108. India have now won two Test matches in a series in the West Indies for the first time!
