Using his magisterial powers, Police Commissioner Amar Singh Chahal has imposed a ban on riding two- wheelers while covering faces. The orders will remain in force for at least two months. 

The step was taken after after a number of miscreants escaped, taking advantage of covered faces.

In a statement issued here today, police official said using his magisterial powers under Section 144 of the CrPC, the Police Commissioner imposed a complete ban on commuting on two-wheelers in the areas falling under the Police Commissionerate by covering faces. The ban will remain in force till October 9. 

The Police Commissioner pointed out that a number of people in the city cover their faces with a handkerchief, a muffler or a cloth. He said miscreants take advantage of this and use the mode to hide their identities. They commit crimes and manage to go scot-free because the police could not identify them even as the incident is recorded in close-circuit cameras.

Further, an alert has been sounded in the border districts in view of the threats by the anti-national forces in view of the upcoming Independence Day celebrations. The police do not want to give a chance to anti-social elements to disrupt the peaceful atmosphere.

Meanwhile, in view of the upcoming Independence Day celebrations, the police was conducting search operations at various vital locations and busy markets. The police teams today carried out search operations at the Amritsar railway station, the local bus stand and at various shopping malls to thwart any untoward incident.
