McCaskill blasts Gingrich for comparing Trump to Truman
Sen. Claire McCaskill (D-Mo.) on Friday slammed Newt Gingrich on Twitter for comparing Donald Trump to Harry Truman.
“For a history guy, you don’t know much about Harry Truman. He’d call out Trump as a phony bloviating god damned fool,” McCaskill tweeted.

{mosads}McCaskill was responding to a tweet by Gingrich in which the former House Speaker said Trump and Truman both challenged the establishment and were “outsiders.”
“Truman is the modern outsider most like Trump.blunt, plain spoken, aggressive, energetic and willing to fight the establishment,” Gingrich tweeted.
McCaskill has been critical of Trump, the GOP presidential nominee, in the past. She predicted last month he would pick Mike Pence as his running mate because he is “handsome” and Trump’s focus is on looks.
Truman was a Missouri resident and, like McCaskill, represented the state in the U.S. Senate. He later became president after the death of Franklin D. Roosevelt in 1945.
Trump leads Missouri over Hillary Clinton by about 6 percentage points, according to a RealClearPolitics average.
