DMRC appoints consortium for signalling, telecommunication for Noida-Greater Noida track
NOIDA: In a step to push the 29-km Noida-Greater Noida Metro corridor further on track, Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) on Friday has inked a contract for testing as well as commissioning of train control, signaling and telecommunication systems for the under-construction route. The contract worth about Rs 290 crores was signed with a consortium of companies including Ansaldo STS from Italy, ZTE Corporation of China and Indian companies ZTE Telecom and Ansaldo STS.
According to DMRC officials, the contract was signed by H.S.
Anand, Director, Rolling Stock, DMRC and senior representatives from the contractor’s consortium in the presence of other senior officials from DMRC and P.D Upadhyay, General Manager (Finance), Noida Metro Rail Corporation (NMRC). “As per the contract, the consortium of contractors will be responsible for the design, manufacture, supply, installation, operations, maintenance and training for the system for the entire route, its 21 stations and depot,” said Anuj Dayal, Executive Director, Corporate Communications, DMRC.
Officials further explained that the train control system, which is to be put into place within 24 months, will be based on CBTC. The state-of-art system will have degraded modes of operation to take care of failure scenarios. The signaling and train control system will provide for train detection, following train protection, interlocking logic, and on-board safety functions such as detection of door opening and over-speed enforcement etc.
While the signaling and train control systems will include works in the operations control centre, stations, depot, on-board equipment for automatic train protection, automatic train operation and automatic train supervision the telecommunication sub-systems shall cover all the telecom sub-systems required by a modern metro rail network such as train radio communication, CCTV surveillance system, public announcement, passenger information display systems at stations, etc.
As per NMRC officials, safety and economic viability for the Metro are on priority. Safety worthiness of the signaling and train control system will be evaluated by Commissioner of Metro Railway Safety under Ministry of Civil Aviation, Government of India, officials said.
