KUCHING: The participation of the community is vital for the government to follow through with its Rural Transformation Programme (RTP), says Batu Kitang assemblyman Lo Khere Chiang.

In view of this, he urged the people to work closely with community leaders in their areas or villages to discuss necessary projects they need.

“The participation of the community and community leaders is very much needed to ensure that projects under the RTP be carried out smoothly,” Lo said yesterday.

He made this emphasis when presenting a social grant amounting to RM300,000 to several organisations and associations.

The presentation held at Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) headquarters in Kota Padawan was also attended by MPP deputy chairman Datuk Ahmad Ibrahim and several councillors and community leaders.

Lo, who is also MPP chairman, noted that many projects needed to be carried out in his constituency, and that he would continue to assist by giving grants under the RTP.

According to him, the constituency was given RM500,000 under the RTP, which he would be distributing later.

“Given the amount, I hope that the people can work together,” he said.
