5 things that make Hrithik Roshan and Pooja Hegde's Mohenjo Daro a tedious watch!

The film, directed by Ashutosh Gowariker, is a let down if you expect something on the lines of Lagaan and Swades.

Oh how the mighty have befallen! Ashutosh Gowariker, who made India proud at the Academy Awards when Lagaan was nominated there, is finding it difficult to make a good film that doesn't make you doze off. Ashutosh Gowariker, who gave me my favourite SRK film of all time in Swades, is struggling to tell a narrative that is entirely his forte. For Mohenjo Daro is a grand disappointment of the year. We should have seen the signs in the trailers and the songs, but it's Ashutosh Gowariker and it's Hrithik Roshan, so we still had expectations. I saw Mohenjo Daro in a morning show that had barely 19 people in it, and most of them looked bored by the time the film ended. There were no claps at the end of the film, the occasional sniggers were reserved for the hammy performances and bad CGI. For the first time, I felt I was not the hard-nosed critic everyone close to me tried to portray me. Today, I had company in my disappointment. I had the company of those remaining 18 people. Here are five areas where Ashutosh Gowariker disappointed me with Mohenjo Daro, and I am not even touching the historical inaccuracies here.

The stale plot

There is nothing new about the plot. It's all there in the trailer - a lad come to a city, where he has a forgotten past, there are villains and a love interest. He trumps over the villains, and wins the girl, and the story ends. Plus, to remind you that this is a Bollywood film, there is also an added plot device of revenge element.

Tedious pacing

This is not an issue with just one Ashutosh Gowariker movie, but every single one of them. However, we were still able to enjoy Ashutosh Gowariker's insistence in retaining maximum footage in Lagaan and Swades, because they were better films and we really didn't see the time flying by. However the pacing issues in Mohenjo Daro are such that if you take a huge loo break in the middle of the proceedings, along with a smoking breakand a chai break, and when you return, you will find you haven't missed much.

Boring heroine and villains

Pooja Hegde is very pretty. Very pretty. But prettiness can't compensate for the lack of meat in your character or for that fact that you can contribute only two and a half expressions to the role. The villains get a far more raw deal. Both Kabir Bedi and Arunoday Singh play roles that we have seen in the '80s, you know the greedy zamindar and his lecherous son types! A hero is as good as the villains that he is fighting. Here, Sarman (Hrithik Roshan) is a typical Bollywood hero who can do any damn thing well, even if he is doing it for the first time, while the villains just grind their teeth and growl.

AR Rahman in his most diluted version

I am a huge, huge fan of AR Rahman, so it pained me a lot when I had to give one of my worst reviews to his music in the film. It looks like Rahman sir had a bad day at the office, and put up the least of his efforts. Even his background score is nothing to speak about.

Atrocious CGI

Sure, we do not expect anything out of a Steven Spielberg film, but the CGI used in Mohenjo Daro will make you laugh though the scene is nothing amusing. For example that crocodile looks like it walked straight from a SyFy channel. And less said about the flood scene in the climax, the better!
