JAIPUR: The district and sessions court in Jhunjhunu on Friday handed out death sentence to man for raping and murdering his six-year-old sister-in-law.
On Thursday, Judge A K Jain had reserved the order on completion of hearing in the case.
According to the prosecution, Ved Prakash Meghwal, a resident of Seetsar village, had taken his six-year-old sister-in-law to a deserted place on his bicycle on September 30 last year.
After raping and murdering her, he had then buried her body at a deserted place. The police had arrested Ved Prakash the very next day and recovered the body after child's father filed a missing report with them.
The prosecution argued that the accused had not only maligned the dignity of human relations but also humanity by murdering his six-year-old sister-in-law after rape and asked for the severest of punishments. It said nothing short of capital punishment would suffice to such criminals, while the defence argued that though the crime is heinous one, considering his young age and family comprising of a small child he be shown some leniency. But the court favoured the prosecution and handed out the death sentence.
