NLC contract workers’ union threatens to go on strike from Sept 2

Neyveli Lignite Corporation's (NLC) Jeeva Oppantha Thozhilalar Sangam (Jots) has threatened to go on a strike from 6am on September 2 if the management failed to fulfill the union's various demands.

CUDDALORE: Neyveli Lignite Corporation's (NLC) Jeeva Oppantha Thozhilalar Sangam (Jots) has threatened to go on a strike from 6am on September 2 if the management failed to fulfill the union's various demands.
Jots general secretary K Venkatesan said the union served the strike notice to NLC director (human resources) in this regard on August 12 with copies to officials of labour commissionerate.

The demands of the union include regularisation of all contract workers in accordance with the agreement signed between the unions and management on June 3, 2012 and Supreme Court's order dated April 16, 2013.
The union also demanded that the management fix the minimum monthly wage at Rs 18,000, fill vacancies in the Industrial Cooperative Society, convene a meeting of the representatives of the society, stop outsourcing of contract workers and reinstate workers sacked for their involvement in trade union activities.
