BCCI on Thursday announced that Duleep trophy will be played with the pink ball under lights and Yuvraj Singh, Gautam Gambhir and Suresh Raina will lead the three teams India Red, Blue and Green respectively. Greater Noida International Cricket stadium will host the tournament from August 23 to September 14. The tournament which was shelved last season because of a busy international schedule, will give a chance to many players to show their potential before a long international test season for India. India will be playing teams like New Zealand, Australia, England and Bangladesh in the season.
Players like Shardul Thakur, Cheteshwar Pujara and M Vijay who are in the West Indies, will be joining after the series gets over in the Caribbean, on August 22. Meanwhile Suresh Raina will miss the T20 series wit West Indies scheduled in Florida. Virat Kohli, R Ashwin and the like may also play in the later stages, reportedly. The aim of the tournament will also be to test the pink ball in the Indian conditions.
League stage games of four days each, will be played in round-robin format while the first game will be played between India Red and India Green from August 23 to August 26. The final will be played from September 10 and will be a five day match. The squad have been announced, with the following names in each team:
