MEGA POLITICAL GATHERING:
Singer-turned-politician Babul Supriyo's wedding with Rachna Sharma was attended by PM Narendra Modi and most of the Union cabinet, besides Babul's friends from Bollywood and Tollywood. Also among the guests was Subrata Roy Sahara, out on parole, who was seen at a social event in Delhi after a long time and was a major topic of discussion there.
As he moved around meeting other guests, there were people following him throughout for pictures. A meet-andgreet session with the bride and groom continued for some three hours, given the number of VVIP guests at the wedding, and the traditional Bengali wedding ceremony followed that. “It will be a mix of Bengali and Punjabi traditions there will be the varmala, but the wedding will be as per Bengali rituals,“ Archana Sharma, the bride's sister, told us before the wedding.
PM KO DEKHNA KA CHANCE:
Modi's arrival was the most awaited event at the wedding, and as soon as the guests saw the security personnel lining up around the stage, everyone gathered around with cell phones in hands. Babul himself was at the entrance to receive Modi, who came only for a few minutes and left immediately after meeting the bride and groom. While the picture was being taken on stage, camerapersons insisted that two kids be removed from the frame, but Modi made them stand with him for a picture and the gesture was noticed by everyone present.
WHEN THE GROOM GOT ON STAGE:
With singers like Shaan and Kailash Kher present, some performances were expected, but when none of them came forward, it was singer and MP Manoj Tiwari who started singing. Babul joined him too. However, one person whose absence was noticed was Babul's 16-year-old daughter, Sharmilee. This is Babul's second marriage and people close to the politician said his daughter did not approve. “Since the beginning, she's had a problem and chose not to come to the wedding,“ said a source.
