Gandhinagar: Kuniyil Kailashnathan - better known as KK in Gujarat babudom - has again been re-appointed chief principal secretary to the chief minister. Sources said KK is likely to serve in the CMO till Gujarat assembly elections in 2017.
The 1979 batch IAS officer has already served in this capacity after retirement, under two successive chief ministers - former CMs Narendra Modi and Anandiben Patel.

Sources said his appointment to the same post was cleared by chief minister Vijay Rupani on Thursday evening though a formal order in this regard will be issued in a day or two. KK's last extension - his fourth - as chief principal secretary to CM was limited to Anandiben Patel's term as chief minister. However, his latest appointment to the post is also for as long as Rupani is Gujarat CM.
KK, now 63, retired as additional chief secretary in the CMO on May 31, 2013, but the day after his retirement, Modi appointed him chief principal secretary to the CM, a post specially created for the bureaucrat. KK never went on deputation. When Modi moved to Delhi as PM, he asked KK to continue at the same post in the CMO. The bureaucrat is believed to be Modi's remote control over Gujarat government, particularly in matters related to the state's home department. KK is said to visit Modi in Delhi frequently to update the PM about developments in Gujarat.
