Child beaten to death by mom, paramour

Dindigul: Frustrated with her five-year-old son coming in the way of her illicit relationship, a woman, along with her paramour beat him to death and later enacted a drama that the boy fell down and died. While police have arrested the woman, a hunt has been launched for the paramour, who is on the run.
The woman was identified as Marikannu, 33, wife of Arumugam from Pushpathur near Palani.The couple have two children - Dhanalakshmi, 7, and Periasamy, 5. Police said that Arumugam is a loadman, while Marikannu is a housewife. Dhanalakshmi was staying in Marikannu's parents' house and studying in a school there while Periasamy was staying with his parents.
On Wednesday evening, Marikannu called her younger sister, Meena and told her that Periasamy was injured in an accident. When the latter came to her sister's house, Periasamy had already dead. When Meena asked Marikannu what exactly happened, she said that he fell down and died shortly. But, she was not convinced with her theory as there were several contradictions in her statement. Moreover, there were injuries on the boy's body suggesting he was beaten up to death.
Following this, police were informed who during investigation found that Marikannu along with her paramour Angamuthu, 32, from Ellamanaickenpudur near Neikarapatti, beat the boy to death.
Police said the woman had developed an extra-marital relationship with Angamuthu few months ago. During one of their meetings at a secluded place near Puliampatti on Wednesday, the accused wanted Periasamy to stay away from them as they did not want him to disturb their intimate moments. But, Periasamy began to cry, which angered Marikannu. She started beating him, and soon, Angamuthu too joined her. The little boy succumbed at the same spot. While Angappan escaped, Marikannu attempted to stage the drama in an attempt to escape from murder charges. However, she was arrested on Thursday morning.
