Watch Nice as F–k’s New Retro-Styled ‘Guns’ Video
Nice as Fuck – comprising Jenny Lewis, Au Revoir Simone’s Erika Forster and the Like’s Tennessee Thomas – are all about peace in their new video for “Guns.”
Befitting the retro-tinged tune, the Luke Rathborne-directed clip has a vintage vibe, with its grainy look and soft, slow fades between shots. The members of N.A.F. bonded over writing songs inspired by their left-wing leanings, and naturally “Guns” conveys that. The song’s refrain is a straightforward plea: “I don’t wanna be afraid/ Put your guns away/ There are children dying every day/ Put your guns away.” Later, Lewis sings, “The solution is revolution/ Kill ’em with love.”
The video opens with the artists hanging out. It then cuts to performance footage where they play in front of a large lit-up peace sign, interspersed with clips where Lewis talks to some children and there’s also a shot of a Bernie Sanders T-shirt (their first performance was at a Sanders rally).
“Guns” hails from their eponymous debut album. The group previously released the video for “Door,” and they recently performed both songs on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert.
