Kurukshetra cops go hi-tech to rein in traffic offenders
Kurukshetra: The video evidence management system (VEMS) started by Kurukshetra police for traffic rule violators started functioning after a delay of four months on August 8. The system records and sends the web link of the traffic offence to the violator through a text message besides uploading each offence on the YouTube channel of Kurukshetra traffic police.

The system was started on April 21 as its first video was uploaded that day on 'trafficKKR', a YouTube channel, and till August 10 about 3,800 videos have been uploaded. Around 50 videos have been viewed and the most popular videos have 42, 22 and 12 views respectively. Police had earlier claimed to catch the traffic violators and send them a video link and penalty for the violations. Initially, a test run was planned for 20 days in April during which offenders were let off with a warning. However, the trial continued till August 7. In almost all the videos, vehicles can be easily seen jumping the red light even in the presence of traffice police. CCTV cameras have been installed at the traffic intersection point near the new bus stand on Pipli road. tnn
