Environment Canada issued funnel cloud advisories for the Dauphin, Minnedosa and Swan River regions Thursday afternoon.

The agency has also issued severe thunderstorm warnings and watches for parts of southern Manitoba and the Interlake.

A low-pressure system moving in from Saskatchewan is colliding with a warm, humid air mass, which could produce thunderstorms capable of producing funnel clouds, the agency said.

A funnel cloud was seen south of Regina around 12:20 p.m. Thursday.

Environment Canada said the weak rotation of these funnel clouds is not generally dangerous near the ground, but the rotation could intensify and become a weak landspout tornado.

These tornadoes don’t usually do much damage, but they can topple trees, damage roofs or toss debris short distances, they said.

Other parts of Manitoba could get strong winds, hail up to the size of a toonie, and heavy rain.
