National carrier Air India is planning to induct Airbus A320 aircraft into its fleet of planes, the government on Thursday. Minister of State for Civil Aviation, Jayant Sinha said that Air India’s board has approved the induction in two phases with the first phase inducting 19 units and the other with 15 units. The minister also added that the induction of the remaining units is under process. He said that the eight out of fifteen aircraft Letter of Intent has been signed. The final agreement is still in process.
“Out of 19 units, five have already arrived and for remaining 14 aircraft, agreement has been signed with M/s ALAFCO,” Sinha said in a written reply to a question in the Lok Sabha. “Air India is also inducting on dry lease A320 narrow body aircraft as part of its fleet replacement and expansion plans for the narrow body fleet,” Sinha added.
Air India had recently signed a memorandum of understanding with the budget carrier SpiceJet in the presence of engineering services CEO HR Jagannath and SpiceJet Ltd Vice President Arun Kashyap. SpiceJet will send its 42 planes fleet to Nagpur MRO.
