Two BUET students drown in Piain River at Sylhet’s Bichhanakandi tourist spot

Two students of the Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) have drowned in the Piain River at Sylhet’s Goainghat.

Their bodies were pulled up from the river on Thursday evening, said Goainghat police OC Delwar Hossain.
 
He identified them as first-year students Sayeed Nakib, 24, of Gainbandha, and Mashiur Rahman Siam, 25, of Rajshahi.
 
OC Hossain said the two had gone to the Bichhanakandi tourist spot in the afternoon along with some friends.
 
They were caught in the strong current of the river when they went for a swim around 4pm and drowned, he said.
 
Locals and police found their bodies later around 6pm.
