Galatasaray want Manchester City's Jason Denayer amid Arsenal links

Galatasaray are keen to re-sign Manchester City defender Jason Denayer this summer but are reportedly facing competition from Arsenal.

Belgium defender Denayer spent last season on loan at the club, who finished sixth in the Super Lig and won the Turkish Cup, and Galatasaray are keen to take him back with the 21-year-old falling down the pecking order at City under new boss Pep Guardiola.

A source has told ESPN FC that Denayer is considering his options after being given little playing game time in preseason, and AMK in Turkey has reported that he is keen on a return to Galatasaray.

The Turkish club's sporting director Levent Nazifoglu said earlier this week: "Denayer settled in well last season and we want him back but it all now depends on what he says and what Manchester City decide.

"We want him and so does the manager and City know this."

The Sun reported on Thursday, though, that Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is keen on the defender, who joined City as an 18-year-old.

The newspaper says City could be ready to sanction a permanent sale for around £12 million, with Denayer not appearing to be in Guardiola's plans.

Denayer did not feature in City's final friendly against Arsenal despite injuries to Vincent Kompany and Nicolas Otamendi as Guardiola started with left-back Aleksandr Kolarov and midfielder Fernando in the centre of defence.

City have since completed the £47.5 million signing of England defender John Stones from Everton, which would appear to further restrict his opportunities at the Etihad Stadium.

Denayer made 28 appearances for Galatasaray last season to earn a place in the Belgium squad at Euro 2016.

When his loan spell ended, he posted on Instagram: "I have cherished every moment of my stay at your legendary club, in your marvellous city. I have always tried to give everything I had for Galatasaray, because the passion of the fans inspired me so much."
