PETALING JAYA:  The company, which was awarded the RM6.341bil Penang Tunnel project, is suing Parti Cinta Malaysia (PCM) vice-president Datuk Huan Cheng Guan for defamation.

In a letter dated Aug 8 from the lawyers of Consortium Zenith-BUCG Sdn Bhd, Huan was asked to file an appearance within 14 days, with case management fixed for Sept 6 at the Kuala Lumpur High Court.

Also named as defendant in the letter was media publishing company Utusan Melayu (M) Bhd.

Huan allegedly said the amount paid by the state government for the engineering studies of RM208.8mil was between 8% and 11% of the construction cost of the three paired roads of 20.3km in length, saying that this was against the gazetted scale of fees agreed by the Works Ministry and the Board of Engineers Malaysia.

The company is also seeking an injunction order to stop Huan from making further statements about it.
