A group of around 25 people vandalised Ravana statue as well as a temple, where it was to be installed, in Bisrakh area, located around 20 kilometre from New Delhi, on Tuesday. The attackers also included alleged members of a ‘gau raksha dal’ cow protection group. Bisrakh village is believed to be the birth place of demon king Ravana in Ramayan. Locals of the area worship the demon king. They believe that demonising Ravana brings bad luck. However, on Tuesday, the group of men reached the area in five cars and vandalised both the temple as well as the statue.
In a complaint filed with the police, locals alleged that the group of attackers included a ‘gau raksha dal’ head and heads of some temples. Police said that an FIR was registered against six people and situation in the village was under control, The indian Express reported. ccording to the complaint, the Ravana statue was to be installed as Shri Mohan Mandir and Yoga Trust in Ram Mandir on Thursday. The group of attackers included six people named in the FIR as well as 20-25 other armed men. The also took out firearms and threatened to kill locals if Thursday’s function took place.
