Another stage, another winner in 2016 Tour de Singkarak as Kritsada Changpad of Thailand won the fifth stage of the cycling race at Gondoriah Beach in Pariaman on Thursday.

Changpad, a favorite of Singapore’s Singha Infinite Cycling Team, clocked in at three hours, 38 minutes and 44 seconds after paddling 153.1-kilometers, the longest route in the eight-staged road race, from Carocok Beach in South Pesisir to the Gondoriah beach.

Second place snatched by Australian Samuel Volkers of Data #3 Cisco Cyling Team within two minutes gap, while Japanese Kenji Itami of Kinan Racing Team came third.

Top-three cyclists — Amir Kolahdouz Hagh of Iran, Dadi Suryadi of Indonesia and Ricardi Garcia Ambroa of Spain — in the general classification did make to 10 fastest in the Stage 5.

It shows that Tour de Singkarak indeed offers surprises on who is going to win this year’s event.

After the fifth stage was officially started, each cyclist chose a position to make a pace in the flat track of the coastal route. Most of the riders were in a big group, until an incident took place. Nothing serious, all of the cyclists involved in the incident resumed the race.

The competition seemed to come into view after the incident as several fast riders going ahead, leaving the big group. The participants faced their first challenge of the stage, seeking points at a climbing spot in Bukit Lampu. Afterward, the track descended all the way down to Teluk Bayur.

Entering Padang town, the track returns to flat surface, yet with a harsh sun light — some cyclists making comments about it. With the long route, most cyclists seemed to play safe, especially as they prepare for a tough track in Stage 6.
