JALANDHAR: A 10-year-old girl, who had gone missing on August 8, was found murdered in an empty plot at a residential colony in Jalandhar on Wednesday. Police suspect that the child was raped and then murdered.
Jalandhar police have arrested three persons, including a woman, after they were captured in a CCTV camera while throwing a bag in the plot where the body was found.

Jalandhar assistant commissioner of police (ACP) B I S Kahlon claimed that the three accused, identified as Jalandhar residents Gunjan, Prem Chander and Dhananjay Kumar, have confessed to the crime during interrogation. They have been charged with Sections 363 (kidnapping) and 302 (murder) of IPC.
This is the second murder of a minor in Jalandhar in the past two days. On Tuesday, a seven-year-old, Gurpreet Singh, was found killed and dumped in a cupboard of a neighbour's house in Malko village near. The accused in the murder case of Gurpreet, who allegedly was a victim of human sacrifice, is yet to be arrested.
The ACP said the victim's mother told the police that her daughter survived an attempt to rape around three years ago and the accused had been convicted, but was out of jail. "We are verifying the information provided by her," Kahlon said, adding that those arrested were different from the convict in the first case.
ACP Kahlon said the victim's mother had reported to the police that the child had gone missing on August 8 night, and they registered a case of kidnapping.

"As we started investigations and looked at the footage of CCTV cameras nearby, we found that the three accused were seen throwing a bag in the plot. When they were questioned, they admitted to have killed the child. We are still questioning them about the reason of rape," he said.
Police officials said the postmortem would be conducted on Thursday and the angle of sexual abuse would also be looked into.
