MOHALI: District transport officer (DTO) Karan Singh has introduced quite a handy way to sensitize traffic violators! They will have to take a pledge whenever they come to his office for the release of their licences and RCs after being challaned. "I have violated the traffic law and now I pledge that in future I will abide by the law laid down by the government and respect it." This is how the pledge will read.
The DTO said, "I don't know whether they will follow the pledge or not, but they will definitely remember it.
If this process reduces the number of traffic violators by 10, I will be happy. I hope they are not going to return to my office for the release of their documents."
The violators have to take the pledge five to 10 times.
Singh said, "I just want to make people know that before they leave my office, they should remember that they have promised something to themselves. Some people before jumping the red light will at least think once of not breaking the traffic rule. Rest is their own wish as I cannot chase them."
Besides, the Mohali police have also started the process to write comments on challan slip, like if someone has approached a politician or a police official during the challan process, the same will be written behind the slip.
Moreover, traffic police have also started to requests to cancel the licences of drivers caught drunk.
