MCD official visits flooded Kalkaji Extn flat, has no solution to offer
NEW DELHI: After TOI published a shocking picture of an inundated living room in a DDA flat at Konark Apartments, Kalkaji Extn, following heavy rain earlier in the month, an MCD official visited the Gambhir residence, the site of the flooding.
“He came and inquired whether there was still water in our home. What kind of question is that?“ said Mamta Gambhir, when TOI met the family on Wednesday.
The MCD officer left without offering any solution to the flooding problem that's plagued the area since 1980s.
The flooding was a horror that has visited the family several times. “Water rose to 4-5 feet.Power points got submerged, with sparking taking place. We fled to the guard post in the society to save our lives“ said Rakesh Gambhir.
While rushing out, Rakesh's 85-year-old father slipped and had to be hospi talised. The flooding occurs because DDA built the complex five feet below the road. “The soci ety's water col lects here and sewers overflow.
The least MCD can do is increase the size of drainage pipe,“ a glum Gambhir said.
