AHMEDABAD: Vastrapur police officials on Wednesday apprehended two members of a gang of teenagers involved in several house break-ins in the city.
Cops said they suspected that the gang had more members and was involved in more than nine burglaries - all of them in shops. The gang only used to steal cash.
The officials said the kingpin of the gang is a fourteen-year-old boy, who is still to be caught.
"The boy lived at a Palanpur-based doctor's house in Thaltej. He was a brilliant student who stood between first and third rank in the class. He had studied till the class sixth. However, he had run away from the doctor's house some years ago," said an official.
The gang used to venture out during the night. 'They would first zero in on a shop and then sleep on the footpath near it. Late in the night, they would break into the shop either by breaking locks or lifting the shutter. To avoid being caught while disposing of the booty, the gang preferred to steal cash," added the official.
The officials suspected that the fourteen-year-old kingpin of the gang used different members for different thefts. "We suspect that the gang could be involved in more burglaries in the city," said the official.
