In April, Redskins signed Josh Norman to a five-year, $75 million deal to play cornerback. The assumption, no doubt, was that wouldn't take on any part-time work, at least during the season.

But on Monday, Norman told TheMMQB.com's Emily Kaplan that he'll be a regular contributor Fox's NFL coverage for the 2016 season. That includes least 10 appearances, the first coming on Sunday September 11 (Week 1), as well as subsequent appearances from his home, FedEx Field and the Fox studios. Oh, and Norman said he didn't notify his Redskins bosses about any of this ahead of time, though he added, "but I'll give them a nice shout out on TV."

When Norman's other gig was brought to coach Jay Gruden's attention, he was understandably confused.

"That's the first ... I have no idea what you're talking about," Gruden said, via the Washington Post. "Pregame show for what?"

Norman also assured Kaplan that none of the non-football extracurriculars will be a distraction. A day later, the story was still a story, which prompted Norman to again defend his decision.

"It's my off time. I can do whatever I choose," Norman told ESPN's Dianna Russini. "I'm around my horse all the time, nobody says anything about that. Everybody [is] like, 'Ohh great.'"

To Norman's credit, he says he's looking beyond football, something few players during their careers, which average three to four years in the league.

"Obviously we know what's going on in the game," the cornerback continued. "It's an easy transition to spit back football to football minds. It made sense to expand my career. ... Who knows if that's something I want to do, but I have the outlet."

Not only that, but his part-time gig will in no way interfere with the job for which the Redskins made him the league's highest-paid cornerback.

"We are not even shooting Sundays," Norman explained. "Let's get it together: We are not shooting, we are playing football. This is pre-taped before, obviously; I'll go to [the] studio once or twice. It's in my bye week.

"I play football. I'm a football player. I have a job playing football. This is something I do in my off time. It's cool. I'm appreciative of my team and organization. They obviously knew about it [and] had to sign off on it."

Wait, what?

So what about Gruden's response on Monday?

"I don't know [if Gruden forgot], Jay is a wild dude," Norman said. "You know how Jay is. ... I love that guy."
