Punjab: Minimum 3-month jail must for benefit of ‘Sangharshi Yodha’ pension

Punjab government informed the Punjab and Haryana High Court Wednesday that it has now finalised the criteria for disbursement of “Sangharshi Yodha” pension.

In order to become eligible for “Sangharshi Yodha” pension, a person should have undergone a minimum of three months’ imprisonment during the agitation of Punjabi Suba (formation of Punjab) between 1955 to 1965. Punjab government informed the Punjab and Haryana High Court Wednesday that it has now finalised the criteria for disbursement of “Sangharshi Yodha” pension.

It was submitted that those who have were in jail up to three months shall get monthly pension of Rs 1,000 per month, those who have undergone imprisonment from three to six months shall get such pension of Rs 1,500 per month and those who have suffered imprisonment of more than six months shall get financial assistance of Rs 2,000 per month.

As per the new criteria, the person concerned shall have to produce a proof for undergoing imprisonment, or a certificate from a co-prisoner or a unanimous resolution by a gram panchayat or from municipal committee stating clearly the duration of jail term undergone by a person during Punjabi Suba agitations.
