Olympic legend Michael Phelps made Twitter lose its mind Monday night as a photo of the champ getting in the zone before the men’s 200 meter butterfly semifinals event at the Rio Olympics became the meme seen’round the world.
With his headphones on, hood up and dead stare burning into the souls of viewers everywhere, many people were left asking: “What is he listening to?”
It turns out that he’s casually losing himself in the music and the moment, as The New York Times published a profile on the gold medalist, who revealed that his pre-swim playlist includes “a mix of songs from Eminem, Young Jeezy and a more recent addition, Eric Church.”

The Detroit rapper has been popular among many public figures as of late. President Obama also gets pumped up to Eminem, listening to “Lose Yourself” before his speech at the Democratic National Convention earlier this year.
While we can’t confirm what pre-game jam Phelps was listening to before the relay, we’re guessing it was Eric Church’s smooth track “Record Year.”
