A weapon and equipment display was organised by Amogh Artillery Brigade at Grain Market in Faridkot on Wednesday. Brigadier Mandip Singh Gill, Commander, Artillery Brigade, who inaugurated the event, motivated youth to join the Army. The display included a wide array of modern, lethal and sophisticated artillery guns, infantry weapons, modern surveillance equipment and special vehicles. Students of various schools visited the exhibition.

Three held for murder
The Fazilka police claimed to have solved the murder case of a 50-year-old woman with the arrest of three persons. Parmajit Kaur was allegedly throttled to death at her residence in Dhani Mohna Ram village three days back. The investigation indicated that Paramjit’s two step daughters and a son-in-law had killed her over a land dispute. Those arrested are Gurdev Singh, Gurmeet Kaur and Reena Rani.

Patwari held for graft
The Vigilance Bureau on Wednesday nabbed a patwari red-handed while accepting a bribe of Rs 3,000. Spokesperson for the VB said patwari Mahinder Singh posted at the Talwandi Sabo revenue circle, Bathinda, was nabbed on the complaint of Balkaran Singh of Talwandi Sabo. The complainant alleged that the patwari demanded bribe for getting the mutation registered and approved and for supplying the copy of the same to the complainant.

One killed in accident
A person was killed while four others injured in a collision between a truck and a car near Dher village on Wednesday. The deceased has been identified as Hem Raj (45), a resident of Hamirpur in Himachal Pradesh. The injured were referred to the PGI, Chandigarh.

Dalits begin dharna
Under the banner of the Zamin Prapati Sanghrash Committee (ZPSC), a large number of Dalits began a two-day dharna in front of the office of the Block Development and Panchayat Officer (BDPO) at Bhawanigarh on Wednesday. Krishan Bharro, a district-level ZPSC leader, said the district administration failed to accept their demands. Their demands included cancellation of "false" cases registered in the recent past against Dalits and members of the ZPSC, unconditional release of 10 leaders and activists of the ZPSC and cancellation of old cases registered against Dalits in 2013.
Minor raped, three booked
The police on Wednesday booked three persons for the alleged rape of a minor Dalit girl from Gajewas village (near Bhawanigarh) at a godown of the Haripura locality in Sangrur. However, no one has been arrested. Vijay Kumar and Shinder Pali have been booked under rape charge, while Gursev Singh has been booked for taking the girl to the railway station.

Trader robbed of Rs 28,000
The police nabbed a member of a gang who had robbed an animal trader of Rs 28,000 and recovered Rs 8,000 from his possession here on Wednesday. The accused has been identified as Kulvir Singh, a resident of Makriah village, while two of his accomplices identified as Mandeep Singh, alias Babbu, and Randhir Singh, alias Dhira, both residents of Mehdudan village in this district, are still at large.
